The Walton Mill Village mixed-use development cleared another hurdle last week.

The Georgia Department of Community Affairs found that the planned 74-unit apartment complex would have no significant impact on the human environment of the area, and therefore, will be able to use grant funds from the United State Department of Housing and Urban Development.

OneStreet applied for the grant money, which comes from the HOME Investment Partnerships Program, in May 2017.

The program provides federal funds for developers building affordable housing around the country. It is the largest federally funded program specifically aimed at tackling affordable housing.

The project has received approval, but public comments about the use of the grant money will be open from today, Aug. 8, until Aug. 24. See the advertisement in today’s edition on page C3 for more information on where, how to comment, as well as the grounds for making a comment.

The project, driven by Atlanta-based developer OneStreet Residential, is slated to begin construction later this year.

It will primarily be focused on senior living, but for those who are still able to take care of themselves. The developers are banking on both people coming from the Atlanta area looking for a quieter lifestyle as well as older people from around the area.

OneStreet expects the apartments are to be open late in 2019.
