Food Truck Friday returns to the Monroe Cotton Mills for its fifth year on April 13.

Lunch will be served from 11 to 2, and dinner will be from 6:30 to 9:30. Athens based folk and Americana outfit Packaway Handle Band will perform at 6:30. As well as the food trucks, there will be beer and wine for sale and a variety of arts and crafts vendors from the area.

The event is a boon for citizens, businesses and charities.

Leigh Ann Walker of the Downtown Development Authority said this event brings people from all around. “We know that even if it’s someone’s first trip to Monroe, it won’t be their last,” Waker said.

Part of the proceeds from each truck will go towards the Walton County Boys and Girls Club summer camp scholarship fund.

The camp is an 8-week program that provides breakfast and lunch for all attendees, according to the club’s Senior Executive Director Monica Trimble. The full cost is $250, but Trimble said the club hopes to reduce or eliminate that for as many kids as possible through partnerships like Food Truck Friday.

Wes Kent runs the Monroe based Silver Queen food truck, which serves tacos and other south-of-the-border fare.

Kent recently moved back to the area after many years in South Georgia. He’s currently using the truck to generate interest in a Silver Queen restaurant that will, if all goes according to plan, open later this year.

“This will be my first year as part of this event, but I’ve heard a ton of people come. We’re hoping it gives us a lot of exposure and revenue,” Kent said.

Silver Queen, the only truck from Monroe, will have the shortest drive to the Cotton Mills, but many others will be there this Friday.

The trucks coming for lunch include: The ATL Burger Truck, Mac the Cheese (Comfort) Food Truck, The Deep South Biscuit Company, Brooke Lynn’s Own Sticks and Cones, Cousins Maine Lobster, UrbanTaali, Kona Ice Athens, Not As Famous Cookie Company and Five Finger Philly.

All the above plus Sweet Jeanius, Just Smokin’ Around BBQ and Spiedie Zone will be there for dinner.
