At the September Walton County Board of Education meeting, Marie Preston — acting as spokesperson for her family and at the request of her late mother, Gloria Power Preston Cox — presented the Patrick Kelly Preston Memorial Scholarship to Monroe Area High School.

Preston talked about her mother’s desire to help students at the school to obtain higher education saying, “Please accept this gift to Monroe Area High School at the request of my mother, Gloria Power Preston Cox, in memory of my brother, Patrick Kelly Preston, to help 10 Monroe Area High School B-plus students fund their freshman year in college, payable one time to each student who wants to pursue a career in science, a gift of $5,000 per student for 10 years.”

Marie Preston was one of the best administrators Walton County ever had. Too bad discrimination against women kept her from rising up to the level of Superintendent. You would think that kind of thing wouldn't still be a problem, but lately it seems to have gotten worse in Walton County!
Supt. Hobbs APPOINTED two new Asst Superinintendents without ever posting either job or interviewing. He never even made the pretense of giving women a chance to interview. He simply put his two white male buddies from Loganville in those positions. And today I heard he created another new position of Director of Maintence for another white administrator from Loganville.
