DeAngelo Wilson sentenced on lesser offense in 2010 death of infant son

MONROE — DeAngelo T. Wilson was sentenced to 40 years, with 25 in the state penal system, following a bench trial involving the 2010 death of his son.

Wilson, 35, of Monroe, was facing felony murder but Walton County Superior Court Judge Eugene Benton chose to convict him on the charge of involuntary manslaughter. Benton also chose to reduce the charge of aggravated assault – family violence to reckless conduct. Wilson was also found guilty of aggravated battery – family violence, cruelty to children in the first degree and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The sentence was 10 years for involuntary manslaughter, 15 years for aggravated battery, 10 years probation for cruelty to children and an additional five years of probation for the firearms possession charge.
