United Methodists reach deal that may lead to split

Methodist plan lets conservative congregations leave denomination

“Traditionalist-minded” congregations will be able to leave the United Methodist Church under a proposal devised last month and announced Friday.

The “Protocol of Reconciliation and Grace Through Separation” would settle the long-simmering dispute in the 13 million-member international denomination over homosexuality.
