Bridge dedicated to world's oldest person

Posted: Friday, August 24, 2012 2:41 pm | Updated: 2:25 pm, Fri Aug 16, 2013.

Politicians, friends, family and community members were on hand Friday for a ribbon cutting ceremony dedicating the recently completed bridge on New Hope Church Road to the world's oldest person, Walton County resident Besse Cooper.

"The older she has gotten the more wittier she has gotten," Cooper's son, Sidney, said, relaying a message from the honoree as she said, "I'm glad I gave them a reason to name it."

Just a friendly reminder that while this is a much loved short cut in Walton County, it is also home to many families, pets and small hobby farms. So as you enjoy the new bridge and shorter journey please watch your speed and be respectful of those whose homes are along this shortcut. If you wouldn't speed through your neighborhood then why are you speeding in ours? Thanks for watching your speed and helping protecting our families.
