MONROE, Ga. — On July 25, 1946, the last mass lynching in America occurred in Walton County.

Two African American couples were murdered by a mob consisting of Ku Klux Klan members. George Dorsey, Mae Murray Dorsey, Roger Malcom and Dorothy Dorsey Malcom were beaten and shot beside the Moore’s Ford Bridge, which marks the line between Oconee and Walton counties.
