BETWEEN — Memorial Day kicked off early in Between as nearly 40 people turned out to the New Hope Cemetery on Friday to commemorate the dedication to a memorial monument in honor of those who died in service to the nation.

Family members of Pvt. James F. Cook and Pvt. Martin Emmett Holder, both local soldiers who died just months apart in the waning days of World War II, were joined by local elected officials and military personnel to unveil the new monument in the cemetery just off New Hope Church Road in the center of Between.
