New traffic light in Between a welcome addition for many

Improves safety at Hwy. 78 intersection

Posted: Wednesday, August 17, 2011 12:00 am

It’s better in Between and safer as well as the new traffic light located on Highway 78 is up and running. Between has seen several face lifts and the new traffic light just solidifies the changes in the community.

Due to the new fire station and the Georgia Department of Driver Services facility, the Walton County Facilities Management Department started considering the need for the light because of the continued increase in traffic volume on Highway 78 at New Hope Church Road. Prior to the traffic light being approved and installed, the only precautions before entering the intersection was a speed limit change from 55 to 50 mph. Many of those inside and outside the Between community are in agreement the traffic light was needed.

Has anyone noticed that the signage at the intersection of Hwy 78 and New Hope Church Road is not correct? The signs that hang from the wires that support the traffic lights read "GA Hwy 78." The signs should read "US Hwy 78" or "GA Hwy 10" in order to be correct.
Was this a city project, a county project or a state project? Who was in charge of approving the signage? We (the taxpayers) should have the signs replaced at no charge due to the error.
