New type of driver’s ed

Students take to course to experience being behind the wheel while impaired

Taking the first turn on the makeshift driving course, Essence Maynor, 16, a sophomore at Social Circle High School, seemed to have the hang of driving the electric go-kart in the school’s parking lot.

Seconds later, the car’s lights blinked from “sober” to “impaired” and suddenly Essence was spinning in circles, veering far off the expected path as she frantically tried to get her vehicle back under control.
