Obituary | 1936–2019 Eugene 'Gene' William Pope

Eugene “Gene” William Pope, 83, of Monroe, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2019.

He was born in Meigs, Georgia, on May 19, 1936, to Walter Pope and Ida Belle Howell Pope.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Jernigan Pope; daughters and sons-in-law, Sherri and Buddy Russell, of Loganville, Gina and Rick Gelinas, of Monroe, and Daphne and Ellis McGeorge, of Loganville; sister, Carolyn Clark, of Eufaula, Alabama; brothers, Earle Pope, of Phenix City, Alabama, Larry Pope, of Beaumont, Texas; grandchildren, Emilee Russell, Andrew Gelinas, Hope Johnson, and Dillon McGeorge; and great-grandchildren, Lilly Johnson and Vann Johnson.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, July 3, at the 1025 Church with the Rev. Tommy Fountain and the Rev. Jimmy Greer officiating.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon Wednesday, July 3, preceding the memorial service at noon at the 1025 Church.

Mr. Gene Pope loved his family and his church. He has served his Lord and church faithfully since he gave his life to the Lord as a young husband and father in the early ’60s. He was a charter member of 1025 Church (formerly Grace Baptist Monroe). Having a servant heart, he served in many ministries within the church throughout his life. He served as a deacon faithfully. He also loved the outdoors; especially fishing and golfing. He was dearly loved by his family and church. He will be deeply missed.
