Ralph W. Cardell, 87, of Social Circle, went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 19, 2012. He was born Feb. 17, 1925, in Woodville to George W. Cardell Sr. and Lida Peters Cardell.

Mr. Cardell loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved the Lord and was a faithful Christian in his daily life. He was also a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Social Circle for more than 60 years. He served as Sunday school teacher, deacon, held various leadership positions and served on numerous committees.

A World War II veteran, he joined the U.S. Navy after graduating high school in 1943 and served in the Pacific theater. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He retired from truck driving at Lithonia Lighting in 1990.

Cardell was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Barbara Kitchens; brothers, Julius, Eugene and G.W. Cardell Jr.; and sister, Elizabeth Bishop.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Pauline Wilbanks Cardell, of Social Circle; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Bob Eidson, of Shady Dale, and Carol Ann and James Peek, of Monticello; eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Evelyn Everett, of Lilburn.

The family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made in memory of Cardell to First Baptist Church of Social Circle, 195 N. Cherokee Road, Social Circle, GA 30025 or The American Cancer Society.

Meadows Funeral Home in Monroe is in charge of the arrangements.
