In the wake of the shooting of a newsroom in Annapolis, Maryland, last year, some yahoo on my Facebook page dared suggested I had no right to worry about the problem of mass shootings if I was also going to be an advocate for the First Amendment.

I’m still not sure I get the point, but one statement was crystal clear: “My wife is a retired teacher. I was once a journalist. We understood the risks going in. No one is truly safe in an open society.”
