COLUMN: Back to basics at CCA

Posted: Saturday, October 22, 2016 12:00 am

We need to turn back to the basics. Lately it seems I hear more and more about how students are missing basic skills in academics and in life. Our job as educators is to build foundations for students to build on so they can be successful.

Students need the foundations in math, they need to know how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. If they don’t know this how do they go on to the higher maths? They need to know how to count money and make change. They are becoming too dependent on calculators and computers and not using their brains.
