COLUMN: Giving thanks for many opportunities in Social Circle City Schools

Posted: Saturday, February 3, 2018 12:00 am

January is typically a time of reflection and change but also a time of thankfulness for the opportunities we have been given. The opportunity I have as superintendent of Social Circle City Schools places me in a very important position, that of seeing student successes in many arenas. The pride I see throughout the district is testament to the many changes and improvements we see in both academic achievement and various programs and athletics.

Having a more than 11 point gain in achievement on the CCRPI and continual improvement in the graduation rate are so encouraging, but sometimes we forget that there are actual students and adults behind those numbers and statistical formulas used to calculate how schools perform. One of the best parts of my job is being able to attend events and see the “big picture” in action. We all have different talents and getting to see the students use theirs is exciting. Highlighting a few of the latest opportunities seems appropriate at the start of this new year.
