COLUMN: Being the light at CCA

Posted: Saturday, September 2, 2017 12:00 am

Covenant’s theme for this 2017-2018 school year is, “Be the light.” Matthew 5:14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.” We love seeing how a theme resonates with our students throughout the year. I can’t wait to see the impact that they make in our world because they’ve realized they are the light of the world; as Christ followers they are the lights in a dark world; lights that reveal the need for a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. They can be lights of hope — lights of love. They make a difference by letting their light shine. As we are equipping them for their future callings, we’re encouraging a heart of service and evangelism in them.

Without realizing it, they are setting up to leave a legacy of hope and light to future generations. Our high school students serve their communities at home and at our annual leadership retreat. This year they gave back to the camp counselors by completing projects they were unable to complete because of ministering into the lives of the campers. Covenant’s high school students wanted to give back to them and be a blessing as they have been such a blessing to us. Our middle school students join the CougarGeneration Service Club each year and work on projects that help fill needs in our communities. Our entire Covenant family participates in our monthly drive for canned goods to serve the Southeast Gwinnett Co-Op. We even have stories of our alumni who are caring for and ministering to people in their neighborhoods and all over the world. One of Covenant’s alumni is heading to Houston in his dump truck to help with the clean up. His truck is also packed with supplies for the victims. These are just a few examples of the legacy being built by the service of Covenant students.
