Rabies — a real threat around us

Rabies. Almost everyone knows how scary this disease is because it is fatal to both people and pets. Most people believe that rabies is well under control due to vaccinations and regulations. But what you may not know is that every spring and summer, we see an emergence of rabies. Worse yet, exposure to rabies can happen in your own backyard. In fact, our hospital saw a 7-month-old puppy with rabies. Even though she had owners who loved her, they had not vaccinated her. She had a history of having a wound a few months prior, which healed with treatment at home. We saw her because she had neck pain. The next day, she progressed to being unable to walk and then began having seizures.

It’s not hard to find pet health information on the Internet. The challenge is finding advice and information from sources that you can trust. What can you do to make sure that the recommendations and opinions you find will actually help? What about those review sites? Can they help you find a veterinarian when you need one?
