Successfully leaping into life
Posted: July 21, 2013 - 12:00 am

Picture this: the dusty backdrop to an old western movie, hero sits astride a horse, basking in the adulation of a community grateful for salvation from cads and evildoers. Although they beg the hero to stay and help them better the community, everyone realizes this charmed time cannot last forever. After all, heroes must ride forward into the unknown, searching for another cause to champion and another day to save.

Tasked with sorting through my inbox

Email is now a primary form of communication. In fact, it’s possible to conduct business all day long and never speak to an actual human. Sharing written blips of info is so common, people ask for your email address more frequently than telephone numbers.

The quest to tame a cluttered kitchen

Is a cluttered kitchen the sign of a cluttered mind, or an efficient cook? I guess it depends on who you ask.

It’s hard to overstate the value computers have brought to our lives. I’m enough of a geezer to remember when there wasn’t a computer on every desk and expressing doubts as to why we’d need one.

If you are looking for a new pet, adopt, don’t buy

Animal rescuers are busy this time of year fielding calls from people who have found puppies, dogs, cats and kittens and looking for help. Sadly, there’s not much available.

Getting lost is a time-honored tradition. In fact, much of our world is inhabited as a result of someone’s geographical cluelessness. Ferdinand Magellan and Christopher Columbus all made great discoveries when they were actually looking for something else.

Will you be a part of the magic?

Do you hear the pitter-patter of multiple feet on your floor each day? Are your days brightened by something with fur, four legs and a tail?

Viewing passing cars from side of road

A sputtering engine is not a welcome sound when driving in the left lane of I-75 in Fulton County. It’s even more ominous when accompanied by a blinking low-fuel dashboard light.

Fuel light is merely a reminder – or is it?

The good thing about getting older is you get smarter. Many years spent making mistakes and suffering consequences always results in moving to a higher awareness plateau, guaranteeing the adult you will avoid those embarrassing situations that haunted your youth. Or does it?

Creating a smile-inducing grand finalé
Posted: March 17, 2013 - 12:00 am

Everyone loves a happy ending. Unfortunately, not all stories follow that path. Life is full of changing circumstances, pain and sad outcomes. But sometimes we’re able to create a smile-inducing grand finale. It’s never a solo effort but rather people working together — lots of individual good deeds woven into a happy ending tapestry.
