Good to see others giving back at The Bridge

Posted: Saturday, January 6, 2018 12:00 am

Our daughter just started The Bridge of Georgia last week. It is a small private school that caters to students with exceptionalities. To us, it’s been nothing shy of a gift from God. The love and devotion we’ve seen from every aspect from the school, to both the students and their families, has been overwhelming. I don’t think the humble faculty and staff are truly aware of their worth. What I saw on Monday, our first official day, made me know the small community where the school is located sees what they are doing in the lives of their students.

As I was standing at the front desk in the lobby, a young man was buzzed in. He said, “I’m here with some things for my community service project.” Mrs. Patty Wilkins, Head of School, whom he had previously contacted, was called up to greet him. I went to a room in the back of the cafeteria to work on some things and I overheard commotion. Carts and carts of toys were being brought in to place under the tree on the stage in that common area. Mrs. Wilkins was thanking the young man and then she came to me in tears. She explained that this young man had contacted her a while back to ask if he could support the school during Christmas for his senior service project for one of his classes. She asked few questions because The Bridge appreciates everyone and everything; it supports the community, the church and missions. She appreciated this young man’s heart. He blindsided her with his hard work, and the generous outpouring from the community around the school.
