Michael Reagan, our interpretation had no voice

Posted: Saturday, October 14, 2017 12:00 am

Michael Reagan, like so many others, still has not grasped the Trump phenomenon. Michael, you are correct, that some of the president’s tweets and statements can be construed as “unpresidential.” No argument there. However, the fallacy in your thinking is that they are not necessary. The left controls and manipulates every major forum in this country for mass communication and exposure; the news (printed and televised), entertainment (movie and television), higher education (colleges and universities), internet, and now even sports. From all of these platforms, the left is able to stereotype, categorize, criticize, demonize and place blame upon millions of conservative Americans. Just by virtue of my skin color, I am now portrayed as a privileged oppressor. Racism, sexism or any number of phobias is the only possible motive for any political difference of opinion. In response to the constant barrage, we have had no voice; millions of people with no platform to express our opinions or defend our beliefs. Those individuals who attempt to express conservative views in any of the left controlled major forums are ostracized and ridiculed. We have had no voice. Then Donald Trump came along and finally we have a national platform… a voice. You said, yourself, “most of the country” interpreted the protest as disrespecting the American flag. You said, yourself, that you were “appalled.” The problem is that our interpretation had no voice. Did the media declare it appalling? Did the entertainment industry declare it appalling? Did the NFL declare it appalling? Did our own federal government declare it appalling? Absolutely not! Instead, the fact that we did not support it was just further proof of racism. Like it or not, presidential or not, Donald Trump is the only national platform that millions of conservative Americans have to express their beliefs and if there is anything the left hates, it is an opposing viewpoint.
