It’s not that one bad apple spoils the whole bunch, but it seems we’re seeing more and more negative publicity about teenage student-athletes of late.

The most awful is the case of the 17-year-old soccer player who slugged an official in the head last week for issuing a yellow card due to a foul committed by the player. The official, Ricardo Portillo, 46, of Salt Lake City, Utah, lapsed into a coma and died the next day.
