Richerson to lead ’Canes

Former West Hall coach comes to Monroe

Posted: Friday, July 27, 2018 2:30 pm

The Monroe Area basketball program will once again be forced to break in a new coach this season.

After the sudden departure of coach Chris Jackson to the college ranks in 2017, the Hurricanes lured legendary coach Bolling Dubose out of retirement to lead the program. But Dubose and Monroe Area both didn’t feel that they were in each other’s long-term plans. Dubose was content with retirement after spending 42 years as the head coach at Jefferson, but took the job to help out Monroe Area Athletic director Eli Connell who was stuck in a hard spot after Jackson’s departure. Connell also wanted to find a coach to lead the Hurricanes program long term.
