WALTON COUNTY — A Monroe man died after a traffic accident Monday.

Robert Stanley McElhannon, 50, of Monroe, died in a two-car accident Monday afternoon after his car collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Highway 78 and Youth-Monroe Road, according to Georgia State Patrol officials.

McElhannon was driving on Youth-Monroe Road and began to turn left onto Highway 78, when investigators said his car pulled in front of a second vehicle traveling east on Highway 78 and was struck in the driver’s side door.

McElhannon died shortly after the crash. GSP is still investigating the incident.
