Beall’s BBQ, signs and posts

Published October 11, 2009

Emptying out the Political Notebook ...

Backing at Beall’s BBQ. Monroe mayoral candidate and former councilman Wallace Beall had plenty of supporters turn up at his barbecue fundraiser last week at the Monroe American Legion Post. Among them was Judge Greg Adams, whose support Beall campaign officials are giddy to have.

They say Adams’ support is a coup considering he has not come out to visibly support candidates for office in the past.

While Adams was glad to show his support, one elected official wanted to make sure his appearance was not — in any way— construed as a formal endorsement for the former councilman.

More than 450 chicken dinners were sold and more than $1,500 was raised for Beall’s campaign.

Look for Beall to contunue on the campaign trail at the Walton County Chamber of Commerce Candidate Forum Oct. 19, Millcreek Subdivision Oct. 20 and the Walton County Democratic Party Meeting Oct. 22.

Signs of life. More than 200 people turned up at the Walton County Right to Life event in Monroe last weekend and another 30 at the Loganville event.

Not bad considering organizers Terry Queen and Becki Bennett expected about 100 people.

Queen sent a photo of the Monroe gathering, showing a line of sign holders lining the historic courthouse square with pro-life signs.

Here comes the judge. While Gov. Sonny Perdue has yet to tap the fifth judge for the Alcovy Judicial District, there are a few faces familiar to Waltonians on the list.

Monroe attorney Stan Cox, former Monroe mayor and local attorney David Dickinson, Loganville lawyer Lori B. Duff, Monroe lawyer Sheryl B. Fambrough, Social Circle attorney Ann M. Overbeck and Alcovy Judicial District Attorney Ken Wynne are still in the mix for the post, according to published reports.

Final interviews for the post will rake place in Atlanta Oct. 13.
