Lions out-score Barrow for fourth win
Published October 16, 2009
Loganville Christian Academy improved its record to 4-1 with a 36-24 victory over Barrow County Christian last week. However, there is not much time to enjoy that win as the Lions must now prepare for a road trip to Alpharetta tonight to battle King’s Ridge.
“I thought the kids came out and played well — especially amidst all the distractions of homecoming week activities,” said Lions head coach Andre King.
King complimented the Knights from Barrow County for being the most physical team LCA had faced.
“But our kids weathered that storm too. They had a bunch of really big players who played hard and hit hard,” said the coach.
Loganville quarterback Matt Kirkland had the game of his career, passing for 212 yards, including four TD passes — a pair of them to Clay Mote— and a 1-yard sneak for another score.
“We made some adjustments at halftime and we were able to take advantage of some mis-matches in their secondary,” King said. “I told our defense not to give up the big play and we made them earn every yard.”
Now the Lions are getting ready for King’s Ridge, a team that has already played some common opponents. King said his next opponent is a very well-coached team and, while they are not as big and physical as Barrow, they will present their own set of challenges.
“Their quarterback is probably their best player and he is very effective at getting the ball to a triplicate of wide-outs,” King said. “They will probably throw the ball 70 percent of the time. Last week, our offensive and defensive lines were challenged. This week our secondary will be put to the test.”
