New faces in new places

Published August 10, 2007

There is an old saying in sports that goes something like “you can’t tell the players without a scorecard.”

That same adage could apply to the changes made for this school year relative to the various Walton County schools and administrators serving Loganville students.

Here are some of the new faces and new places for the 2007-2008 school year:

•Bill George is the principal at the new Sharon Elementary School in the Youth/Loganville area. Loganville parents will remember George from his previous stints at other Loganville schools and at Atha Road Elementary School. Opening its doors for the first time this year, Sharon Elementary will have about 700 students in Pre-K through 5.

•Medina Landers is the new principal at Atha Road replacing George and comes to Atha from Monroe Elementary School. The student population at Atha Road has been cut approximately in half and has changed dramatically from last year with the change in district lines and the introduction of Sharon Elementary.

•Denise Cobb is the new principal at Youth Elementary School, which will continue to serve approximately 725 students. Youth Elementary has also experienced a change in the makeup of its students due to the introduction of Sharon Elementary.

•Shannon LaChappelle is still the principal at Loganville Elementary School and Nancy Strawbridge continues to be the principal at Bay Creek Elementary School, formerly Loganville Primary School. Changes at these schools involve grade levels, with both shifting to a Pre-K through 5 configuration. This is part of the system’s overall move to Pre-K through 5 elementary schools.

•Bridget Lynch is the new principal at Youth Middle School. Lynch comes to YMS from Loganville High School, where she was an assistant principal over the Freshman Academy. YMS serves more than 1,000 students in grades 6-8 from Loganville and the surrounding area.

•Loganville Middle and Loganville High schools have the same principals, Dr. Eugene Williams and Gary Hobbs respectively.Best of luck to all these folks as we move forward this school year.
