Man arrested with 1,000 pieces of child porn

WALTON COUNTY — A Monroe man has been arrested after county sheriff’s officers uncovered a stash of child pornography containing “more than 1,000” images of children engaged in sexual acts.
Jonathan Lynch, 35, 411 Highway 11 South, Monroe, turned himself into law enforcement officials Monday after his home was raided and the pornography was discovered.
Walton County Sheriff’s Office officials found videotapes, DVDs, computer disks and hard drives containing the images after executing a search warrant at Lynch’s home Monday morning.
Lynch, who works at a Fulton County computer consulting firm, had been convicted of a sexual offense in Cobb County and as part of his probation, he was required to take an annual polygraph, WCSO officials said.
He failed his last test, prompting law enforcement officials to search his Highway 11 home.
Photography equipment was also found, but law enforcement officials said there is no reason to believe he was taking sexual pictures of children.
“This is by far one of the larger collections of child porn I’ve seen,” WCSO Capt. Chris Cannon said. “It is disheartening.”
Cannon thanked the state Probation Office for aiding in the arrest and stressed the importance of following through with information gathered during a sex offender’s probation process.
“This is what to me the emphasis on the sex offender registry needs to be — using the resources like the polygraph — taking it that step further and ridding the community of this type of stuff,” he said.
Lynch is being held in the Walton County Jail without bond.
Because each piece of child pornography counts as one crime, Lynch could face more than 1,000 counts of possession of child pornography and probation violation.
