Lions bang out 17 hits in win over N. Georgia

LOGANVILLE — The Loganville Christian Academy baseball team (13-4, 8-0) finished the regular season with a 25-0 win over North Georgia Christian School (Gainesville) on Tuesday.
The Diamond Lions pounded out 17 hits in the region contest, while Matt Kirkland and Conner Austin combined to pitch a one-hit shutout.
The leading hitters for the Lions were Harrison Monda (three hits, five RBIs, Matt Kirkland (two hits, grand slam), Dylan Adcock (two hits, two RBIs), Austin Latham (3-for-3, three RBIs) and Drew Sewell (3-for-3, two RBIs).
The Lions finished first in the East Region of the Independent Christian Schools of Georgia-Alabama and hosted Grace Baptist Christian School from Hiram in a sub-state playoff game Friday.
On Monday, Latham and Earle combined pitching efforts, allowing just four hits on the day as LCA beat Monsignor Donovan (Athens) 4-3, with Latham going the first three and Earle pitching the final four. The Lions managed on four hits after being kept off stride by the opposing pitcher.
In other spring sports news, the Loganville Christian boys soccer recently defeated Young American Christian School, 9-1. Nolan Callaway (4), Daniel Bowling (2), Brian LaRotonda, Jordan Davis and Braeden Berry all scored for the Lions. Assists came from Joey Bullock (3), Callaway, Davis, LaRotonda, Brooks Driver and Stephen Heard.
The 8-4 LCA golf team stumbled a bit in the Georgia Independent Schools Association 1-AAA regional tournament but still qualified for the May 11 state tournament with a fourth-place finish and a score of 379.
Leading LCA were Travis McAlister (91), Mitch Philippus (92), Sean Warner (96), Jeremy Mohr (100) and Austin Davis (102).
