Lions putting last year in past
Published July 29, 2009
LOGANVILLE — One of the great things about a new sports season is that last year’s records — good or bad — are relegated to the past while the coming campaigns hold the promise of redemption and restoration.
Andre King, Loganville Christian Academy athletic director and head football coach echoes that sentiment.
“The guys are excited about playing football, starting fresh, building on the lessons we learned last year; they are rejuvenated and have a lot of confidence about this season,” King said.
King’s troops took a week off at the end of spring practice in May, but have been in the weight room ever since, working on strength and conditioning.
“They realize this is a very important part of success in high school sports,” he said.
The LCA football program underwent a huge transition last year, moving from tremendous success in the 8-man football played in the Independent Christian Schools of Georgia-Alabama league to the more traditional 11-man play in the Georgia Independent Schools Association
King said the 2009-10 schedule has been completely re-vamped and features other schools that will be playing a junior-varsity schedule.
LCA will also be playing teams in the Christian Sports Athletic Association.
The Lions will be participating in a mini-camp, on campus, Aug. 3, in preparation for a tune-up scrimmage game against King’s Ridge Christian.
“This is really an exciting time to be an LCA football player,” King said. “We will be playing football, on our campus, for the first time this year. The school has been dreaming about this for 11 years and on Aug. 21 it becomes a reality.
“The bleachers are going in and the lights are going up. Very exciting.”
Four of the Lions’ first five games will be played at home, including dates with Central Fellowship (Aug. 28), Young Americans (Sept. 4) and Cross Keys (Sept. 17).
