Lady Red Devils open Saturday in Parkview
Published November 18, 2009
Expectations are high for the Loganville girls varsity basketball team as the Lady Red Devils begin the 2009-10 campaign with a 6 p.m. Saturday matchup against Northwest Whitfield in the Parkview Tip Off Holiday Classic. N.W. Whitfield beat Loganville in the first round of last season’s state tournament.
LHS is coming off an 18-11 record last season with four returning starters, including senior Brittnee Hazel — a recent Mercer University signee. A four-year starter, Hazel has scored 823 career points with 607 rebounds and a school-record 189 blocks.
Joining Hazel are veterans Katie Martin, Enisha Donley and Chandler Nash. Coach Rob Donaldson will also welcome Loganville Christian Academy’s best player from last season — Kristina Keeble — along with holdovers Meredith Biles, Olivia Gish and Rebecca Lund.
Entering his fourth season as head coach, Donaldson’s first three teams have a combined record of 51-32 with two state playoff appearances.
“We believe this to be a very promising year,” Donaldson said. “We would like to compete for a region crown and state title. We feel the tough schedule will prepare us for the region tournament and a back-to-back trip to the state playoffs.
“We realize this will not be easy as we have very good and well coached teams in our region such as Clarke Central, Madison County, Salem, Cedar Shoals, Heritage and Winder Barrow. Also, I expect a better year from both Monroe Area and Rockdale County.”
