Fallen Loganville soldier to come home

LOGANVILLE — Loganville area residents are expected to honor local fallen soldier Cristian Rojas-Gallego when he arrives in Georgia this weekend.
He will be laid to rest early next week.
The 24-year-old soldier from the U.S. Army Stryker Brigade Combat Division out of Fort Lewis, Wash. was one of three soldiers killed in action in Iraq Aug. 2 when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. He will be buried in Stone Mountain Monday.
Tentative arrangements have the fallen soldier arriving at Peachtree DeKalb Airport Sunday morning where he will be escorted to Wages & Sons Funeral Home, 1040 Main St., Stone Mountain for visitation later that afternoon.
The burial is scheduled to take place Monday at Melwood Cemetery, 5170 Ponce de Leon, Stone Mountain.
The Patriot Guard Riders are escorting the body from PDA to the funeral home Sunday as well as to the cemetery Monday. Times are not yet firm. A spokesperson for Wages & Sons said there was a possibility the funeral might need to be delayed a day, depending on the arrival time Sunday.
Loganville Mayor Tim Barron said an official car from Loganville Police Department would be included in the procession Sunday and he too would be in attendance.
According to Bill Wages, of Wages & Sons Funeral Home, the procession from the airport is expected to leave from and follow I-285 east to Highway 78 east and then down Highway 78 to Stone Mountain.
Barron has asked the city council Thursday to authorize him to send a resolution from the city urging the legislature to expedite citizenship for the fallen soldier.
Rojas was a Colombia immigrant who served first as a Marine and then with the Army. He was killed on his fourth tour in Iraq, leaving behind a wife, Megan, and three young children.
