OXFORD, Ga. — A Walton County firefighter is credited with saving a woman’s life in a weekend house fire.

Walton County Fire Rescue was called to a house fire in the 1000 block of Cannon Farm Road, west of Walnut Grove, on Saturday morning. Dispatchers told the responding firefighters a woman remained inside and might be trying to harm herself by staying inside the burning home.

An entry team of firefighters went inside upon arrival while a team of their colleagues attacked the fire.

Firefighter Jason Page, from Station 3 on Georgia 81, found the woman in a back bedroom and carried her out of the house. His colleagues then contained the fire, which caused moderate damage to about a third of the house.

The victim, who was not identified, was transported to Walton EMS for further evaluation and treatment for smoke inhalation.

The fire’s cause was undetermined as of Monday, Assistant Chief Craig League said.
