WALNUT GROVE, Ga. — Walnut Grove voters will choose their mayor and two City Council members in the fall of 2019.
Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming election.
• Mayor’s race: Topping the ballot is a race for mayor between two people who have served together on the City Council.
Qualifying last month were Mayor Pro Tem Carol D. Witcher and Councilman Steven Mark Moore.
Mayor Lamar Lee earlier announced he would not be seeking reelection.
• City Council: Walnut Grove elects its City Council on an at-large basis. Two seats are up this year, and one of them Witcher is vacating.
Qualifying for the council race are incumbent Kevin E. Shultz and hopefuls Mary L. Hall, Stephanie Fox Moncrief, Sarah Vertice Weaver and Joseph J. Wilchek.
• How do we vote?: Eligible voters who live in the city limits are allowed to vote. Voters will choose for mayor, then pick two of the five candidates for City Council.
Voters must be registered by Oct. 7.
The City Council voted last month in a special called meeting to allow the Walton County Board of Elections to handle early voting.
Election Day is Nov. 5 with voting at the Municipal/Court Building at 1021 Park St.
