Brian Kemp

Gov. Brian Kemp speaks to Walton County Republican Party members at the party's monthly meeting Monday night, Jan. 17, 2022, in Monroe, Ga.

Maybe I’m reading too much into it. I’ve definitely been accused of that. But Gov. Brian Kemp’s remarks to the Walton County Republican Party last week struck me as noteworthy as much for what he didn’t say as what he did.

Sure he had all the red-meat conservative platitudes you’d expect in an election year in the safest of spaces for an incumbent governor (even one despised by the most recent president of his own party).

Excellent question. Now ask why the local politicians, who are in Walton (and Morgan) every day, have been so silent and continuing to operate in secrecy. Personally, if I have good news that will benefit everyone I know, you can’t stop me from telling everyone about it. And if I’ve done things completely honestly and aboveboard I’m glad for people to know that too. It makes one wonder…
