Social Circle High School hosted the annual Walton County Championships for cross country runners last week with Walnut Grove taking the boys title and Loganville emerging in first place in the varsity girls race.
The Warriors produced four of the top six finishers and ended the event with 25 points. Loganville (38), Social Circle (73) and George Walton Academy (85) completed the field.
The Loganville girls put five runners in the top 13 positions and took home the first-place trophy with 36 points. Walnut Grove was second with 49 points while Social Circle and GWA rounded out the field with 53 and 81 points, respectivelyLoganville’s Austin Walden won the individual gold medal, finishing with a time of 16 minutes, 58.52 seconds. The next three runners were from Walnut Grove. The group included Austin VonKutzenben (17:51.56), William Ponder (18:07.30) and Rico Selmon (18:20.72).
Rounding out the boys top 10 were Hunter Berkley (Loganville), Devin Sharpe (Walnut Grove), Jaxon Muzik (Loganville), Mitchell Clegg (Social Circle), Raj Jani (GWA) and Darius Jones (Walnut Grove).
Berkley Hawks of George Walton won the girls gold medal with a first-place time of 20:52.98. Walnut Grove runner Kaitlin Ivey was the runner-up in 21:20.68. The next three finishers were from Loganville. The trio included Alaya Lindquist, Jessica Wolf and Megan Johnson.
Walnut Grove’s Jessica Brand placed sixth with Heather Penley (Social Circle), Ashleigh VonKutzleben (Walnut Grove), Alyssa Ervin (Social Circle) and Michelle Grenewich (Social Circle) completing the top 10.
GWA took first-place team honors in the boys and middle school division.
George Walton Academy middle school runner Trevor Bone won the boys race while Emma Hodges of Loganville Christian Academy claimed the gold medal in the girls middle school event.
