All-County Player, Co-Coaches of the Year

With the conclusion of the 2018 high school softball season The Walton Tribune is announcing its selections for the 2018 All-Walton County Softball Team and Walton County Coach of the Year.

The Social Circle Lady Redskins finished the season as the Class AA state champions and that was reflected by Social’s 11 All-County selections. The Loganville Lady Red Devils had the second most selections with eight after winning Region 8-AAAAA and making it all the way to the Class AAAAA state championship game. Loganville finished with the best record in the county at 29-11, but Social Circle wasn’t far behind, finishing at 28-11.

Following Loganville and Social Circle was Walnut Grove with seven All-County selections. George Walton and Loganville Christian each had four selections to the All-County team.

Leading the All-County team are The Walton Tribune’s Co-Coaches of the Year, Audra Thomas and Alan Maddox. Thomas, in her fourth season as head coach at Social Circle, helped lead her team to their fourth region title in five year and dominating performance in Columbus en route to the Class AA title. Maddox helped guide the Lady Devils to their first region title since 2012.

Also leading the All-County team is Shelby Harpe, The Tribune’s 2018 Player of the Year. The Austin Peay commit finished the year batting .487 while tallying 22 RBIs, 46 runs and four home runs. But where Harpe really excelled was in the circle where she posted a 1.24 ERA with 179 strikeouts and a 20-4 record in 140.2 innings. Harpe was named 8-AA Player of the Year and Class AA Pitcher of the Year.

First team All-County selections consist of Loganville catcher Lauren Sommerer, Loganville first baseman Grayson Cruce, Walnut Grove second baseman Nova Wright, Walnut Grove short stop Madi Perry, Social Circle third baseman Jessica Owens, Social Circle outfielder Emma Swider, Walnut Grove outfielder Lindsey Patton, Loganville outfielder Kinley Stewart, Loganville pitchers Caitlyn Candy and Emily Buck and George Walton pitcher Taylor Tinsley.

The All-Walton second team consists of Social Circle catcher Hanna Dempsey, Social Circle first baseman Peyton Sorrow, Social Circle second baseman Emily Jacobson, Loganville Christian short stop Cassie Boatwright, Walnut Grove third baseman Grayson Perry, Social Circle outfielders Presleigh Sorrow and Tara Poole, Walnut Grove outfielder Kennedy Votava, Social Circle pitcher Hannah Owens, Walnut Grove pitcher Chasiti Wade and George Walton pitcher Caroline Connor.

Honorable mention selections include Social Circle’s Alexa Wykoff, Aubrey Garrett and Lexi Atkinson, Walnut Grove’s Trinity Aycock, Loganville’s Madison Keener, Riley Dunn and Josie Haulk, Loganville Christian’s Allie Hughes, Hannah Starling, Nicole Parkerson and Haley Biesiadecki, and George Walton’s Savannah McBee, Kelsey Barrineau and Taryn Shelnutt.
