MONROE — The Monroe Area boys trounced Social Circle in high school basketball action Saturday night.
The host Hurricanes led 21-3 after a quarter and 33-12 at halftime. It was 66-20 going into the fourth quarter.
The girls game earlier was much closer.
Monroe Area jumped to a big lead, 12-4, after a quarter, but Social Circle stormed back to tie it 23-23 at halftime.
Monroe Area led 41-29 after three quarters.
Monroe Area plays host to East Jackson on Tuesday, while Social Circle plays host to Glascock County on Dec. 4.
GIRLS
Apalachee 51, Walnut Grove 50
In Winder, Apalachee defeated Walnut Grove 51-50 in overtime in an nonregion girls basketball game Saturday.
Lindi Fitzpatrick scored 22 points to lead the Warriors (0-2).
Walnut Grove was to play Winder-Barrow on Tuesday, after The Tribune went to press.
Calvary Day 50, George Walton 34:Â In Savannah, Calvary Day dealt the George Walton girls their first loss of the season Saturday afternoon.
The host Cavaliers led 19-8, 32-16 and 42-21 at the rest stops.
George Walton (1-1) will play again Dec. 4 at First Presbyterian Day in Macon. The girls game will tip off at 6:30 p.m.
Loganville 42, Mays 31: In Lilburn, Loganville opened its season with a 42-31 victory over Mays in a tournament at Parkview High School.
The tournament was to continue Tuesday afternoon with the Red Devils (1-0) playing Stephenson of Stone Mountain.
BOYS
Walnut Grove 60, Apalachee 40: In Winder, Walnut Grove got its second win of the season by defeating host Apalachee 60-40.
It was the second win for the Warriors, who beat Alcovy 80-52 Friday.
Against Alcovy, Walnut Grove led 19-8 after a quarter and 31-22 at halftime.
The Warriors were up 56-39 after three.
Walnut Grove was to play Winder-Barrow on Tuesday in the ApaÂlachee Thanksgiving Tip-Off.
The Warriors will be back in action Tuesday at Griffin.
