LCA Homecoming

JR Curley, left, was voted Homecoming King by his peers at LCA. Julia Fleming, right, was chosen to be Homecoming Queen.

LOGANVILLE — It took four quarters of football and two overtime periods for either Loganville Christian Academy or Deerfield-Windsor to get on the board on homecoming night for LCA.

But, in the third overtime, the Knights punched in a score from the 1-yard line, after LCA’s freshman kicker Carter Smith converted from 22 yards out. The game finished Deerfield-Windsor 6, LCA 3.

After four quarters without a score, the game headed to overtime. Both teams got a shot from the 25-yard line in the first round of overtime.

LCA started with the ball. The offense marched to the eight-yard line, before being forced back from penalties. Smith’s field goal attempt from 34 yards out fell short.

Deerfield marched the ball down to inside the 10-yard line. Then, with the game in the balance, the special teams unit swatted down the attempt to keep the game alive.

Deerfield got the ball next, but the Lion defense forced a fumble and got the ball back.

On LCA’s next shot from 25 yards out ended with Smith’s 28-yard field goal attempt being blocked by the Deerfield defense.

In the next round of overtime, both teams started from the 10.

LCA got on the board with Smith’s third overtime kick. Deerfield, however, did the Lions one better and found the end zone on a one yard run.

Defense was critical to the Lion’s effort. Across the whole game, the unit forced six turnovers. JR Curley tallied nine tackles, including two for a loss. Cameron Lifsey added seven.

Curley was also voted Homecoming King. Julia Fleming, who was voted Homecoming Queen, joined him.

LCA will play Notre Dame Academy at home next week.
