Schekinah Bimpa led all scorers in Loganville’s loss to Collins Hill.

MONROE — Monroe Area routed Oglethorpe County 99-38 in boys high school basketball last week.

The host Purple Hurricanes jumped to a 26-11 lead after a quarter and led 50-21 at halftime. It was 78-28 after three quarters.

Monroe Area (2-0) plays at Loganville (0-1) on Saturday night.

CCA 80, Covington 30

At Loganville, Covenant Christian opened its season on Nov. 17 with an 80-39 victory over Covington Academy.

Covenant is replacing four starters from last year but didn’t miss a beat in the 2015-16 opener. The host Cougars jumped out to a 6-0 lead on 3-pointers by Justin Stephens and Kendrick Reynolds en route to a 19-11 lead at the first rest stop.

Covenant led 45-21 at the half behind six points each from Stephens and Jack Wilson.

“This team, potentially, could be better than last year’s 17-5 squad,” coach Keith Cline said. “We are younger, but over all, more talented and sport the biggest team we’ve had at Covenant in some time, with four players between 6-foot-2 and 6-foot-5.

“Our schedule is much tougher, however.”

CCA JV 50, Covington 46

At Loganville, Xavier Samuels scored 26 points to lead Covenant Christian to a season-opening 50-46 victory over Covington Academy.

Carter Musgrave had a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds.


Collins Hill 51, Loganville 47 (OT)

Collins Hill defeated Loganville 51-47 Saturday in girls high school basketball action at the Loganville Showcase.

A basket by Schekinah Bimpa cut the host Red Devils’ deficit to 40-39 in the final minute and a free throw by Daijah Cousins tied it with 14 seconds to play in regulation. The Eagles couldn’t make a last-second shot and the game went to overtime.

A 3-pointer by Jazmin Smith gave Collins Hill a 46-45 lead in the final two minutes. A three-point play by Jada Rice sealed the victory.

Bimpa led all scorers with 17 points. Imani Arnold had 10 for Loganville (1-2).

Smith led Collins Hill (2-1) with 10 points. Dixon and Sydney Brown had nine points each.

In other action at the Loganville Showcase, Dacula beat Lowndes County 66-61 behind a 26-point effort by Faustine Aifuwa, and Archer routed Greenbriar 56-16.

CCA 22, Covington 15

At Loganville, the Covenant Christian girls opened their season Nov. 17 with a 22-15 overtime victory over Covington Academy.
